TIM HORTONS HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA UNVEILS FIVE SATELLITE LOCATIONS FOR NINTH ANNUAL CELEBRATION, FEB. 21Online auction launches Feb. 6, 2009The stage is set! As announced tonight on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, five satellite locations have been added to the TIM HORTONS HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA line-up. Plaster Rock, N.B, Windsor, Ont., Carlyle, Sask., Cold Lake, Alta. and Toronto, Ont., are the five communities that will join host location Campbellton, New Brunswick in the hockey celebration beginning at 12 noon ET on Feb. 21. The following is a breakdown of the host and satellite locations for the 2009 edition of TIM HORTONS HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA:
· Campbellton, N.B. (Host Location) – Ron MacLean will be front and centre in Campbellton, alongside Don Cherry, exploring the importance of the game to this bilingual community of 7,000 people
· Plaster Rock, N.B. (Satellite Location) – Located three hours down the road from Campbellton, CBC’s P.J Stock reports from the 2009 World Pond Hockey Championship MacLean and Kelly Hurdy will also be in Plaster Rock for the Thursday game
· Windsor, Ont. (Satellite Location) – CBC’s Scott Russell will be on location for the National Championships of Play On! – a 4 on 4 street hockey tournament presented by CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada; sixteen teams from across Canada will compete for the Redwood Cup
Carlyle, Sask. (Satellite Location) – It’s a special NHL Hockey Day homecoming for Brenden Morrow of the Dallas Stars as CBC’s Mitch Peacock and the farming community of Carlyle welcome back their favourite son
· Cold Lake, Alta. (Satellite Location) – CBC’s Doug Dirks goes rinkside for a special charity game between the Calgary Flames Alumni Association and members of the Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake
· Toronto, Ont. (Satellite Location) – Reporting from Brazen Head Irish Pub, CBC’s Steve Armitage speaks with Toronto Marlies fans warming up for Don Cherry Night at Ricoh Coliseum as the local AHL team takes on cross border rivals, the Rochester AmericansPlus, beginning Friday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. ET,
TIM HORTONS HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA ON CBC will launch an exclusive online auction, in conjunction with the NHLPA, at CBCSports.ca/hockeyday.
Featuring one-of-a-kind autographed memorabilia graciously donated by Tim Hortons, the NHLPA, NHL and Canadian NHL teams, including a Sidney Crosby-autographed jersey and a 2009 NHL All-Star autographed jersey, the online auction runs until Monday, Feb. 23 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Proceeds from the auction will go to KidSport New Brunswick to assist with minor hockey and THE HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA HELP FUND (For more information go to CBCSports.ca/hockey).
The NHLPA will also match the funds raised via an equipment donation to KidSport New Brunswick as part of the NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund.
